I’ve been asked a million times how to get started in art licensing and while it is a loaded question, and it is impossible for me to explain everything in one blog post, I’m going to try and simplify it for you today.

— First things first, licensing does not mean working only with repeat patterns, it could be a stand alone motif art or a full blown painting. You can read more about it in my blog post here.

— Sending out your work is the most important step. Whom to send it to is another story. Check out my blog post all about finding licensing contacts.

— Once you’ve found the right contact, you need to have 3-5 images of cohesive artwork to attach it to your pitch email.

— What to write in a pitch email, how and when to follow up is something I learned from Juliet Meeks’s course Licensing for Artists.

Her course is so concise and it covers everything you’d ever want to know about art licensing.
She goes over —
creating a cohesive body of work,
pitching your work
contracts, what to look for in them, red flags etc.
pricing your work, standard industry royalty rates, negotiating your price.
..and lots more

Licensing does not have to be this mysterious elusive thing, it is possible for all artists and works as a wonderful way to earn passive income.
If you are serious about it and don’t know where to start, I’d highly recommend this course.

As an affiliate for Juliet’s course, I might get a small commission if you end up purchasing the course.
