Getting started with wholesale on Faire

They say diversifying your income streams is one of the best things you can do for your business. I agree. It helps when you have more than one avenue of income so that the ebb in one can be balanced by the flow of another (However, don’t spread yourself too thin; that’s a topic for another day).

I decided to try the wholesale route and got my first order from a local boutique shop but finding and researching the right retailer partners was proving to be a pain.

Enter Faire. I had heard of it but had my reservations because of the cut they take. As I was reading about it, it started to make more sense. It is a platform that brings retailers and brands together under one virtual roof and the retailers are on there with the intention to shop. That is key. So for this kind of convenient arrangement, a small commission is worth it. For reference, Faire takes 25% cut for the first order and 15% cut for re-orders. You can read more about their policies on their FAQ page.

I applied to Faire a couple months ago. To my delight, my application was accepted within a week and I was asked to create a line sheet with SKUs, sizes, prices, images and such. The template provided by them really made my work easy. After that, they took my information and created my online storefront for me, which was great! So in about 10 days, my shop was listed on Faire! The process was fairly straightforward.

I didn’t receive my first order until about a couple of weeks ago so I guess I’ll ask you to be patient. Also, I wouldn’t have found the retailer on my own so big props to Faire. Overall, I am pretty pleased with Faire. It is free to join, it brings your shop in front of retailers you normally wouldn’t have reached yourself and it makes invoicing and shipping a breeze. Also, I don’t need a separate password protected online shop on my website specifically for wholesale.
